  • When in doubt, whip it out!
Howdo am new to this site. and i am seriously considering buying a GTI next year.
only problem is i dont know wheaver to buy a 1.8 non turbo or a 2.0litre i herd the 1.8 have more BHP than the 2.0l. and just wondered which one is tune to tune or modify for POWER!!!

Cheers any help
would be great
cheers
if your 1991 in your name suggests your birth year, i suggest not getting a gti first, insurance will be sky high, get a 1.6 or something along those lines, a gti is probably better after 3 years no claims, also what mk (mk1-6) golf do you want?

+1 but pick the 1.8.
i wouldn't have a 1.8 at 18, way too expensive on insurance, way over 2.5k i'd say..
if you want power then you need to go down the forced induction route otherwise your gonna be wasting your money.

Yep, you cant really tune the N/A engines. You can get about 20bhp or so with some filters, a Milltek and a remap (your looking at around 1k for all that) but for the cost of doing all that you might aswell get 1.8T, its just simply not logical.

If indeed your birth year is 1991 then your insurance on a GTI will be off the chart ! Good luck getting cover for anything less than 2k (and the rest).

There is nothing wrong with the N/A engined models, you get all the GTI looks and interior spec, but without the power.
insurance will be more then that, on my mk3 1.4 se it's 2.1k so on a gti at 18, i'd probably say over 3k

2018 t roc sel 1.6tdi

well it'll be next year when a buy the car. and i will have 2 years NCB so it aint soo bad as av been driving nearly 2 years
insurance wont be that much of a problem really just looking for something wit a bit more power as am driving round in a ibiza 1.2, dont get is wrong a love it but fancied something with a little bit more power plus av always loved the look of the mk4 golfs with the R32 bumpers.

cheers for the comments tho

Why not go for a TDI.
