Auto dimming mirrors
« on: 07 September 2009, 15:26 »
Hoping someone can answer this.....

I have the auto-dimming rear view mirror (think it was standard on the GTI?). Anyway, the driver's side dorr mirror also seems to be auto-dimming as it tends to go slightly green when driving at night with someone behind me and also it seems to have a visible film covering the glass, apart from the 1-2mm around the edge.

However, the passenger side doesn't seem to dim or have the film. Is this right or should it be the same as the driver's side? I just wonder if the car has had a new mirror glass at some point and they have put a normal one on by mistake.

Cheers.

Not to steal TT's thunder but the o6 cars "lost" the passenger side dimming mirror that the 05 cars had.

Yup and with that cost cutting measure, VW also altered the wiring harness so it isn't an easy and straight forward job to retro fit a fully functioning passenger dimming mirror.

can you retro fit dimming wing mirrors onto newer golfs? I would be very interested if that was possible.
