DSG owners: have you tried the Launch Control yet?
« on: 29 August 2009, 12:56 »
I came across this in the manual the other day and was just wondering if anyone has actually tried it.

yeah it's good fun, it will hold the revs at 3000revs but just do it to about 2500revs for better launch
Sad that i have not got my Astra VXR Nurburgring anymore but well happy with my Mk6 GTi, much better car

Any 'burnt clutch' smells, or other such worrying side effects?  :embarassed:

i'm interested in this, sold my subaru yesterday, so i took it out the night before to have a go- dumping at 4000 really does give a clutch stink. 4wd so no tyre squeaks

is the launch control something to use sometimes, or once only? how much tyre damage does it do too?
Just sold an S5 - previously mkV R32 DSG Metallic Grey with RNS 510 (thanks to MortyGT140)

don't need to worry about the cluth as it is all computer controled just the tyres but to be honest if you rev it to 2500 then you don't get much wheelspin really just loads of positive power

 Didnt know computers could prevent clutches from breaking!

Its is bad for you car to do it too much, like anything! The DSG has two clutches and it strains them when you put strain on them (ironically)

It has, however, been used on much higher powered cars lots of times and been fine!

I rarely use it as the 32 launches like sh!t of a shovel without it but its a good talking point to show off to your mates

Nope, and if you hold it on the brakes and throttle for too long, the DSG box will actually disable the LC when the gear oil starts getting too hot.  The DSG is reasonably 'fail safe' in that respect, and whilst the 'odd' use of LC won't do any harm at all - repeated use will kncaker your engine mounts.
