New to VWs, and what a start :)
« on: 13 August 2009, 23:37 »
Hello there from North Devon.
I just got my first VW, a Mk3 2.0 8v GTI (1996) in a metallic green (perhaps dragon? Not too sure of the VW colour names yet :))
So far, I'm loving it. So much more fun to drive than my old 1.6 Escort :D
Very good physical condition, although there is some vandal damage to the paint work. Other than that, the garage that checked it out was well impressed with the engine and general soundness of the bodywork.
It appears to be pretty standard, with no mods spotted yet.

I have wanted a Golf for years, and this one came at just the right time, and for the right price (as my Escort was dying, and £350 from the dealer over the road from me who took it as trade a few days before) Pure luck too. I saw it on the forecourt, with no price or info on it. Just stuck my head in the door and asked what the story was with it. Some negotiation on price, and a bit of begging round the family for an emergency loan, and here I am 2 days later :)
Got it being valleted next Friday, so may get some pics of it then.

Only advisory EVER on the MOTs was a CV boot that was perishing :D (Not like my Escort...) There are a few bumps and scrapes associated with 13 years of use. But most of them look like they will go away with a bit of elbow grease :)

I know NOTHING about VWs yet, so may get a bit cheeky with asking for help every now and then. It took me 10 mins at the petrol station to work out how to open the filler cover for goodness sake

Booking it in for a rolling road soon, as the garage is really close, and I have had MANY dealing with them over my Escort :/ There is an older (Mk 1 or 2) gti over there at the minute that looks really nice. They specialise in race tuning and rally Fords, so I guess it is a good place to get it checked out. Results will be posted when I get it done.
