mkIII gl td 5 dr with electric windows x 4

hi i recently bought a gl td for my wife, the elctric windows  only went down but not even a click when pressing any of the window buttons. was advised by an "expert" that it was the motors that were faulty. having not worked on Vw for over 35 years i took his word and have replaced all 4 electric motor and mechanisms,  ive check all the harnesses, but i still have the same problem, motors send the windows down, but absolutely nothing when trying to send them up. ive now been told by another "expert" that the windows need re programming. why would they? they were working in the other gl td that i took them out of but wont work in mine. is there a hidden control unit for the wondows?

Can you hear the relay click under the steering wheel?

what relay under the steering wheel? do you mean the large double relay on the top of the fuse box in socket 22 & 23? i didnt even know there was any relays under the steering column

Yes do they click when you try to put them up?

no nothing at all on any motor, each motor clicks when pressing down, but nothing when pressing up on any of the switches. ive  changed the motors and they were working in the other identicle car, but not mine. ive managed to find that there is a large double relay fitted into 22 and 23 on the fuse box, which i think is the electric window relay. just running out of ideas

if its not clicking when yur pressing up then its not geting the signal, check your wiring between the doors

checked them its exactly the same fault on all 4 doors, all 4 motors will go down but not up click from each motor when sending down but nothing at all from them when i press up, check each switch, ( drivers door, passenger door and both the rear window switches in the dash ), same result
