Probs GSD3s, but there is nowt wrong with them either.

Strongly disagree.  Wait until they get half worn, and wet roads.

And if the was nothing wrong with them, why have Goodyear dropped them and replaced them with the F1 Asymmetrics?

They haven't dropped them though - you can still buy them, and they are still on the Goodyear website as a current tyre.

I've loved them for years on my beamer - I like the progressive grip on them, rather than grip grip grip grip no grip of a lot of other "high performance" tyres. I also have had no problem with lesser grip in wet conditions with the GSD3... and I actually prefer their performance when worn!

But for a GTI (or any front wheel drive car) I cannot comment... but I think I will try them out. Wont be any worse than the simply awful dunlops I have on there now.

I suggest you check again - they have been officially discontinued for over a year now - which means they are NOT being manufactured.  OK, there was some 'overlap' when GY hadn't rolled out all sizes of the Asymms to replace the GSD3s - but they defo arn't being made.  So any GSD3s which peeps buy are just old stock - not good for rubber.

I've loved them for years on my beamer - I like the progressive grip on them, rather than grip grip grip grip no grip of a lot of other "high performance" tyres. I also have had no problem with lesser grip in wet conditions with the GSD3... and I actually prefer their performance when worn!

ETTO and all that, but neither the original Pilot Sport (directional) nor the current PS2 suffer with the 'grip>grip>grip>NO grip' syndrome - they were/are both extremely progressive, and give superb 'on-the-limit' feedback.

But frankly, I actually think it is vital to have a tyre which can perform highly in the wet, even when worn - which is why all the top tyre manufactures have ditched directional designs in favour of asymmetric tread patterns.

But for a GTI (or any front wheel drive car) I cannot comment... but I think I will try them out. Wont be any worse than the simply awful dunlops I have on there now.

But the Dunflops are also directional, and will also suffer from serious aquaplaning when there is still 5.5mm tread remaining!
