If you are going to change the cam, then get new tappets too, to decrease the likelyhood of premature cam wear due to used and worn existing tappets.

A cam will help but unless you have done other mods the gain if any will be small.

Stick a PB (GTI) head on it.
Put a 4-branch manifold on it.
Give it a little dose of porting.
Throw it all away and put an ABF or similar in it, because it runs like a bag of nails and is a pain to drive anything but flat-out.
