Temp Issue
« on: 06 August 2009, 10:09 »
I have the good old problem of the cutting out issue....i have stumbled upon this problem.....well i think its a problem because it was never like this before...

The thermostat dial is saying that my car (after hard driving for an hour) is 79 degrees where as the one on the MFA (Clocky Thing lol) is saying 94 degrees... now i'm not sure if these are supposed to correspond to each other, in the past they have...im sure?

Can some one tell me if this is an issue and would i need to replace anything??

Any help would be much appreciated!! Thanks Guys!!

I would be inclined to trust the guage, mine runs at about 80 while on the move. Look here for clues as to why your car is cutting out.

The temp on the mfa is not water temp but oil temp and 94 is about right.

The one on the mfa has stayed the same for as long as i can remember...

Ones water and ones oil i thought? What i have noticed is generally the water one corrosponds to the oil, not exactly but 3 - 4 degrees difference. My thermostat used to run at around 90 Degrees but i don't know if this has changed due to me replacing a split hose.

Arrggghhhhh    i'm going crazy over this...

Your water temp sounds about right, as long as the gauge is in the middle then you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks Wayne! so that means i'm still trying to find out why my car decides once every couple of weeks to start cutting out on me and ask to be rested for a while till i can drive it again... :(

Not driving my Mk3 today but pretty sure the mfa shows, time, duration of trip, distance, outside temp, avg speed, mpg and oil temp. Hope I'm not missing any

My thermostat is always at 90 regardless of driving (once it heats up) and the oil temp from the mfa would vary from 90 to 94.

See yours is the same as mine used to be....now it strangely sits at 79-80 and the other day when i switched on hte ignition it rose to 90 then when i started the car it went back to 79? i find this strange as this has not been the case in the last 2 years of driving it.....

You can replace the thermostat if its worrying you but anywhere between 80 and 90 while driving is fine.
