uneven disk/pad ware on front 280mm disks

last week i changed my front disks and pads. lockheed grooved items and std ferodo pads. g60 fittment

ever since iv noticed uneven padware. in the picture below, its within the red circle that the outer pads dont seem to be making contact with the disks. you can tell as there are still rust marks on the disk, and the original finish is still present. please note, its a sample pic and i only wish i could afford these stoppers!  get the idea though  the area not making contact is just under 1cm



iv checked and cleaned, re copper slipped today and nothing seems amiss. the inner pads are making contact perfectly.  this problem is also on both left and right disks!

the only thing i can think of is the slider pins? after 18yrs of use im pretty worn!!

Sounds like your calipers are seized, off the top of my head, I cant remember what type of operation Golf calipers should have, but either the outer piston is seized, and/or the sliders are seized, other's may disagree, but I would be looking at investing in a set of new calipers, if this was the case..

nope not the case im afraid. sliders fully greased. and the pistons i pushed back with my thumbs!

Most of the pressure is applied to the outer part of the disc. If you imagine the disc spinning and you tried to slow it down with your fingers at the centre it would be difficult compared to the outside. Thats why bigger discs are preferable, Anyway the reason the difference in wear is so noticable is because you are using soft pads with performance brakes. mintex minimum preferably omp or green stuff.

I think there maybe a bit of a misunderstanding with what your saying! 
Are you saying that there is something like 10mm of the inner contact surface of the disc that is not getting any wear? presumably the pads have sufficient material, so it covers that part of the disc, otherwise, I would say that your pads are not yet fully bedded in..
pics of your actual brake setup would be far better than those posted

i dont think that area of the disc is contacted by the pads on 280 brakes, as they use the same pad area as the 256mm setup, just the caliper is pushed further out by the caliper
