electric windows go down not up
« on: 16 August 2009, 16:06 »
as no body seems to be able to help after spending over £100 on motors, after being told all my motors were faulty. and still having the same problem, does anyone have a wiring diagram  for the electric windows? ive had 1 guy say the windows are linked to the central locking. i have totally stripped the car cannot find any relay or ecu controlling the windows. another guy says the windows are coded to the car ( on a 95? ) and will need to be reset with a vag com. what ever one of these is. the only fault ive found if a remote control unit fitted to the central locking pump that had burnt out. this has been removed, and the central locking still works fine. does anyone know if the central locking and electric windows are linked?

have you checked the wires from the doors?

As this is common

Where have you been going!?, theres no relay or ecu. There is a normal fuse, and a thermal fuse.

They do not need reseting via vagcom, they dont even appear on vag com.
all the windows are is one big circuit, all connected to each other, when the motor gets the signal to run it runs. that simple!

problem wise, as said check the wiring, can you hear the motor clicking when you try to raise the window?

yes ive stripped the car, the doors, the door harnesses, the door switches, the sill covers, every single wire and harness around the car, no broken wires anywhere. i cannot believe that ive bought 4 electric motors with exactly the same fault as my original ones.especially as i saw them working it the car i took them out of. cannot find any relay on the fuse box that seems linked to the electric windows. they also seem to be linked into the electric mirrors, but they work fine.  im being to think buying a mkIII was a big mistake, we used to have a MKII gti for 10 year without any of this kind of problem.
which is why im trying to find a decent wiring diagram so i can trace what wires do what.
if i cant sort this stupid problem i will probably end up breaking the car as im not taking an old car the the dealers to try and fix as they are useless and cost a bl**dy fortune b4 they even start.

hi adamrob, various other vw forum, needless to say im not going there again.
ok, when i press down on any of the switches each motor clicks, if i manually raise the windows, and press any of the switches, each motor goes down.
now when i press any of the 4 switches to go up, nothing at all, no clicks nothing from any motor

wel from the sounds of it you have a broken circuit some where.

i have a wiring diagram for the elecy windows somewhere if you want to take a look.

all the windows are connected together on one circuit. try to do some investigating with the voltmeter at the door pin connections, at the window switch, and the plug that plugs into the motor.

I have only worked on a car with elecys windows in the front only, so im not sure on the circuit for all four. but i know there is a wiring loom that runs under the dash that connects the front two.
