Gearbox woes. MK3 1.8 Auto
« on: 31 July 2009, 23:21 »
Hey, I've fairly recently sold my MK2 Valver for a 1.8 Auto MK3.  Thanks to the other half.

Anyway, having a bit of trouble. It kept not going into reverse or 1st and then all of a sudden it would jump into gear.

Today however it pulled away really slowly, and was doing 5K at 70MPH. I then realized it was stuck in second. If you pull the selector into 1st, it will go into 1st. However, when you push it up, it's supposed to go to at least 3K then change. However it just instantly jumps and really jerks into gear.

I have a feeling it's hopefully just the oil. Would this make sense, it has a bit of trouble getting into reverse?

Thank you.
Golf MK3 1.8 auto and I didn't pay a grand for the "priveledge", auto windows all round and a AC. Oh and I've got a luggage net you pricks!

Does that make my willy look bigger?

Oh yeah it's called Helda or something....

First step drop the oil into something clean, see if anything is in it or smells burnt, refill with fresh oil and retry, if your still having problems then it could be a valve sticking or a box problem.

OK will do thank you. Now I've got to try and find the fill and drain holes.

RESULT!

I got this car cheap as it had gearbox troubles, well, under the bonnet on the gearbox, there is a cable with loads of pins and a connector.

The connector was really loose and just touching some pins.

Put it back and all is cool. I think it still needs a top up, I'll do that later when it's cooled down a bit.

Well chuffed, thought it was gearbox time.

Was suprised at the electricness though!

I would still change the oil, could prevent a problem later.
