I would fix it soon if it lets go you lose a lot of water, I would leave checking the water for 15 to 20mins and cover the cap with a rag and undo really slow.

hi mate, i had the exact same on my golf i just got. the plastic joint/part you have ring in your pic needs replacing there about a tenner from a vw parts surplier and will take about to mins to replace did mine yestaday and its fine now. undo the two bolts and it will pull away then un clip all the hoses, but remeber warter will piss out the hosesw so try not to get other parts of engine wet and make shure engine is cold. then replace with new part and top up your warter/coolent jobs a gooden

Get a new one from euro, etc. 10 min job. Temp sensor housing/oulet.
It looks cracked in the pics. Need some coolant also.
