Question for tomorrow's job
« on: 06 July 2009, 17:49 »
I'm wanting to replace my engine undertray cause i've noticed my engine gets very dirrty very quickly and the engine is quite loud compared to my old mk4..

I can see that i have both sides intact (driver side slightly loose but that will be cable tied) but the centre bit looks like half was torn off!

Now i just wanted to know how much of the centre bit i am missing cause if it's not that much i might just leave it but if it's a big section missing i will replace it. I called the stealers and  asked for the centre undertray. £26.83 he says, and £27 for the driver side and £25 for the pass side.

Can anyone with a 1.8t please post up a pic of what a complete undertray should look like.....i understand that the Derv's are different.

Thanks guys

X plate 1.8T:  I got two slim side sections and one centre undertray that's only about 20/20cm deep behind bumper.  Doesn't cover entire engine, barely reaches back to sump.

£27 - That sounds cheap, I'm sure I read they are crazy money?

I've just been to VW (Morden) picked up a rear tow cover (£0.92 ). It's the smaller (petrol) version thats £26.83, the two sides are also £27 each approx.

I have read that the diesel (bigger) version also fits the petrol, this however, is £67

Perhaps i'll just source a diesel one from a breaker

Still no GTI undertray pics then?

Ok does anyone have a picture of a GTI engine bay where you can see the engine tray?

Trying to figure out if when looking from the top of the engine, between the grill and the engine if you are suppose to see the floor or if the smaller gti undertray covers that. Obviously i know the diesel one goes all the way so would cover.

The front of the small cover slips into a slot at the back of the lower valance, if thats any help. Don't think you will see the floor from where you are looking because I had to take it off to access the oil filter.
