probs with my anni MK 4
« on: 06 July 2009, 23:17 »
I am brand new on here, but already have found snippets of useful info, but really need some advise if anyone can help pls? I have the following things wrong with my beautiful MK 4 GTI anniversary 2002. I bought him new and have suffered:
1. the front right hand side tyre keeps going flat and has done since new - all other tyres fine.
2. my alloys are wrecked and from reading threads here this seems a common problem. I understand VW would have changed them but it would be too late for me to do this now, so is there anywhere I can have my current set cured/painted/resprayed. (ok I'm a girl and don't know the teccy jargon)?? How much would a new set cost and where would I get them from?
3. Had to get a new battery recently and went to a normal garage. When I got the car back my sterio don't work. I am guessing I now need a code for it - help! My baby just ain't the same without tunes!
4. I have an engine light which keeps coming on even though i have had it fixed 3 times now. Why and what is the cause and what course of treatment?
Any advise would be appreciated. thanks!
Oh and both my windows have fallen into the door - and had to be fixed.

1 - could be a faulty valve or the tyre need re - sealing - asuming there is no punture.

2 As you say very common problem with the anni wheels you will need to get them refurbed you can get this done for around 50 pounds a wheel.

4 You need vag com or a code reader to scan for the fault code:

and as for the windows welcomw to MK4 ownership

evening..

1) any tyre place will be able to tell you if its the valve, tyre, or wheel itself that is leaking.. they probably won't even charge to check it out. Or you can check it yourself by mixing up some fairy liquid and water in a spray bottle. Spray it all over the wheel and watch for the bubbles.

2) powder coating is the most durable solution.. but if you want them shiny then a strip down paint/polish or diamond cut is what most wheel refurbishers do. Expect to pay anything from £120 to £300 for all four wheels.

3) radio code will be written in your handbook that came with the car.

4) if the light keeps coming on.. they arent fixing the fault, merely clearing the error codes and resetting the light. There are many things that could cause the light to come on.. the car's ECU will store the fault codes which can be read by vagcom or other diagnostics. VW charge a nice fee to scan those fault codes.. but many members on here have the tools to do that and will gladly do it for free if you're local.

oh yeah.. welcome to the forum
