Right, an update on this. I went out to the car earlier and turned the ignition on. To my total disbelief the ABS light went out shortly followed by the air bag light!!

I started her up and the ABS light came on for 2 seconds then went out again. Is this the normal light sequence for a car with working ABS? I went out for a spin in the rain and did a couple of very hard stops and couldnt get the wheels to lock up, however i am not feeling any feedback or anything through the brake pedal so i cant tell if this is just a combination of good tyres and brakes etc or the ABS that is stopping me from skidding?

sounds like you have a sporadic fault in the ABS system-once the light is on the ABS in not working, have the exact same fault in my car the last 7-8 weeks
and certain days the light doent come on at all, highly unlikely it will go away for good without replacement of the problem component.Got mine tested in a dealer and fault was pinned down to the ABS unit.
never knock yourself as there is always somebody willing to do it for you
