changing coolant?

hi all not long had my gti it came with service history etc however noticed the other day it has no coolant in and is running on just warter  :angry: noticed other day when one of the symbols was flashing on dash last owner must of blag us a lil lol so baught some coolant today but how do i drain the system so i can remove some of the warter and how much coolant do i add i know its 40% coolant and 60% warter but what amount is that in litters. thanx guy's  :smiley:

undo the bottom radiator hose (or try to get the bottom heater matrix hose off), if you take the bottom heater matrix hose off then the water flushes through the whole of the engine and matrix so you have no deposits left...only do either one though, the rad hose or the heater matrix hose

wait for all coolent to come out

open expansion cap and get a hose and flush the system through with clean water to get all crap out...if you do manage to get the heater matrix hose off then keep squeezing the top rad hose while your flushing it with water from the hose :)

put hose back on

how many litres is in the coolent bottle you got there?? 2L im assuming, put about 1L of coolent in the system first then fill the rest up with plain water from the hose, then start the car and let it get up to full temp with the expansion cap off so that you have no air leaks...while you do this you might realise that the coolent level is dropping, just keep topping it up untill its stays at ther proper level :)
