Get in the car this morning, car like a furnace. Drivers side electric window has decided to fail. Passenger and others are fine. Taken the plastic away to check the wires, connection etc (as mentioned in a few related threads after a search on the forum). But they all seem fine. Switch makes the motor make a clicking sound but nothing else.

Anyone know any good troubleshooting suggestions to fix this? Save me a £500 trip to the garage.

Thanks in advance.

I had mine apart at the weekend and oiled the pully wires. Simple fault once i'd got it out of the door with a broken clip. Good luck with yours. Where are you based?

i had the problem where the motor would click, and there were no problem with any of the wiring.

Turned out that the clamps holding the windows in had been pushed to far up on the rails and was catching at the top, so it was impossible for the motor to bring them down again. Didnt realise this until i had taken everything out, and trust me its not an easy job getting it out whilst you carnt move the window down!, i'd buy a new regulator and rails in readiness, and cut the wire of the one in the car to take it out, then just swap.

I had my door card off yesterday and inspected the wires inside the grommet also. Everything looked fine.

How exactly can I unstick the window, if it is catching. Sorry, I didn't quite follow your suggestion.

Thanks

if you look theres the two rails either side. attached to them rails are a metal clamp that holds the window in place. This clamp had gone so far up the rail it had actualy started to go round it at the top causing it to jam. now if you can look up to this clamps, try manouvering them about abit see if you can get them to go.

I did not realise the problem until i get the whole unit out the door and inspected them. I found everything worked fine it just got stuck at the top.

However you will be very lucky if you can get the whole unit out of the door with out breaking it in someway, whilst the window is all the way up. But this is only a suggestion, it may not be you specific problem like mine (but its a good bet).

If you attempt to take the unit out of the door with the window all the way up, be prepared to buy a new unit!
