Right,

So I've replaced the exhaust system on my j-plate valver. with a Jetex stainless steel system which is great

However the silencer on the downpipe to which the Jetex is connected to is corroded, badly  and a replacement I've been told will cost an arm and a leg, not good!

I've got a question, do I need this silencer, is there a straight through connector I can get from Manifold to the Jetex and would that make it really loud? Are Stainless Steel replacements made for that part at all?  I'd rather not buy a mild steel part and have to replace that  in a couple of years at £150 a go.

Any advice most welcome, I'm guessing a straight through pipe from the manifold to the exhaust might be the best thing.  I live in a residential area and the Jetex, plus the blown manifold silencer is about on the limit of acceptable noise! LOL!

  • Hello, my name is John and I'm a dub addict.
this box is just a resonator rather than a silencer, so removing it wont make much difference to the exhaust note. if you can find one a g60 downpipe and cat-bypass is a direct swap for the 16v downpipe, though you have a fun time in store for you removing that downpipe!

Thank you!

Well I'm happy to take on the task of getting the G60 downpipe on, if I can find one but I'm on the case. One final question though, if I can't find said bit. Is there an alternative I can use, or perhaps can I buy a G60 downpipe, prob a silly question! But I'd rather not buy a new 16v downpipe, especially as the resonator doesn't actually kill any noise.

Thanks, once again rubberjohnny

Apparently MK3 ones also work, but I cant say for sure as I'm not 100% what the bore is on them. that being said if you get just the downpipe a decent zaust place should be able to knock up a section of straight pipe to go between it and the front silencer :)

Corrado 16v 9a one is also probably a close match if not direct fit :)

Just fount this thread after a quick search.

Mine is blowing bad and I'm finding it hard to get a replacement, after reading this I'm just going to get it cut out and replaced with a bit of pipe.

1st one is handy since it has 2 lambda bungs, can use one for your managemwent and another for a gauge

my 16v has a 4 branch manifold and my local exhaust garage made a pipe to replace the front box (mine has no cat) you can also get a pipe from vollksbits.co.uk that replaces the centre box so just leaving your backbox as the only box in the system.
Trust me this is the set up i have and it sounds awesome quite loud, but not like a cheap sound you hear on certain boy racer cars but
more of a means business roar!
