I shove mine in the de grease sonic tank at work and blow it off with an air line then spray some light oil on if i can be bothered/find it.
I suggest the kitchen sink fairy liquid and a soak /sloosh rinse and dry, or shove it in the dishwasher on a short cycle mine has been through a few times on a cold wash
Not sure K&N would recomend it but ive had mine for about 4 years so ive had my moneys worth and it is still intact.
Piper one i had before fell apart in the tank, not a happy bunny

Came with the car I guess then! As they come with cleaning stuff!

I would use a weak soapy solution, a little washing up liquid say. Then just use a small paintbrush on the filter, dont immerse it in water!
