MK 5 Gearbox Problems
« on: 05 June 2009, 20:25 »
Hi All

A question on behalf of my nephew so aplogies if my facts are a little muddled, he's the only person in the world without access to the net

He's running a MK5 2 litre turbo with a DSG (is that correct?) gearbox, it's a 2005 with about 70k miles on it's back that seems to have a gearbox problem. Symptoms are; just before coming to a standstill the car judders, it's as if the clutch isn't disengaging, also it's difficult to engage first or reverse from a standstill. Switching off the motor for a minute seems to clear the problem for a while.

He's been quoted silly money (>5K), for a new box etc at the local dealer but they won't guarantee that this will fix the problem as it may be electrical/electronic  He's tried getting a sh box but this seems an impossible task.

Has anyone any experience of these symptoms, and of so what was the fix?

Thanks in advance

TBJ
