Returning to the fold
« on: 31 May 2009, 17:49 »
Have posted on the Mark 6 GTi bit cos I've just ordered a new one that's due for the 59 plates in September. I had a Mark 3 GTi and 2 Mark 4 GT TDis and have been away from VW since those. That's about 5 years in total so I thought I'd re-introduce myself on the newbie bit.
In fact the 2 Mark 4s were the worst cars I've ever owned and I vowed I'd never buy another VW but I test drove a Mark 5 GTi on its launch and loved it. Never bought one because I was determined not to buy one after the experience with the Mark 4s but always still hankered after one. Test drove a very late Mark 5 with DSG in February and nearly bought it but didn't cos the dealer wouldn't reduce the price, despite my claim it was obsolete.
So after 5 long years I test drove the Mark 6 last Monday, loved it instantly and ordered one. I just hope and pray it now lives up to my expectations of it and i can genuinely fall in love with VW again.
Fingers crossed!!!!

How ironic - that red Mark 3 was exactly like my very first GTi 10 years ago. I loved that car - it was the Mark 4s that drove me away.

I hope this Mark 6 is good too. It was awesome to drive on the test drive and I know the Mark 5 was a lot lot better in terms of reliability than the Mark 4s so I'll put those 2 down to a bad day at the office for VW.
I've never stopped liking the cars in the meantime so let's hope I'm back for good. If it is VW may get another sale out of me when the wife's convertible is up for change. We might get an Eos.
Customer service is the key - can VW do it this time?
I'll keep you all posted how they get on!!!
