Cutting out
« on: 19 May 2009, 14:36 »
Hi,

I've got a 97 MK3 8v GTI, I have been having some problems with it cutting out in a variety of guises, one day it would just die as I came to a stop at a junction, other days it seemed as though someone was just cutting power to the car, I went to see my local VW specialist and he recommended cleaning and re-setting the throttle, this seemed to have solved the problem, but the next day I went out and it was all over the show, the revs were going from 3k to 0 constantly with all the lights on the dash coming on, now the weird thing is, it seems to have a little spat of a morning, and is then fine, it has never done it when I have been on my way home, always first thing in the morning, we have changed relay 30, and am waiting for a couple of other things to come in for the mechanic to try, anyone else had this kind of problem?

Cheers

Jez

This wasn't a cutting out issue but this thread pointed to the ECU relay. Might be something else to try. http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=9093.0

Apologies if that's relay 30 and you've alreday changed it.
......now officially dubless.
