ARGH!Help!
« on: 30 April 2009, 21:27 »
Ok, so first of all my exhaust emissions warning lamp came on flashing. Took it in, they fitted a new coil pack. All was well. They also 'fixed' the problem of sticking in first gear by using 'lots of slick 50'(?). All was well. Until today. The warning light has come back on, but not flashing. It also got stuck in first gear again today which is so annoying! To top it off, got a crack in my windscreen after a police van sped past, flicking a stone at me as it went!

Has anyone got any ideas on the warning lamp or the gears? The garage have told me they are both common faults, but I cant help feeling like they are fobbing me off until the warranty runs out in 6 weeks time! (Im a girl and Im blonde.)

exhuast emissions = get the sensors on the exhuast checked out - known as lambda probes

depending on your engine code / type you'll have 1 or 2 - whoever looks make sure they check the wiring to the sensors as often this heats up and goes brittle thus causing faults

any pix blondie?

only jokin, what do you mean its sticking in gear one, do you mean it literally wont move out of gear?

if so it could be one of two things, one of which would be your gear linkage, if you dont know about cars ask someone to take a look

at your linkage? Or worst case scenario i would say it was your grarbox, could be the selector forks in the gearbox sticking?Or at

a wild crazy guess could be your clutch beginning to wear?To test this put your car in 5th gear, put your foot down and see if the revs

slip high without accelerating much, and in regards to the exhaust, could possibly be faulty lambda sensors in the exhaust?is it decat?

stick it on vag com, before they try invoicing you for something that should be covered under warranty

Already there  forgot to mention, I managed to get 3 months extra warranty out of them. I bought it mid march and theyve had it more than I have! Should the engine be running for vag com to bring a code up? The mechanic hooked it up today and said there wasn any codes coming up. Ignition was on.

So I was on the way to the garage for the mechanic to look at the flat spots problem and it stuck in 1st. Majorly. I could not move it, had to stop in the traffic, embarrasing! Finally managed to get it out of 1st and carry on. Told mechanic when I got there, all he said was 'I don't know what to suggest' Its had new clutch, new linkages so from what people have said it can only be selector forks in the gear box am I right? Im starting to wonder if its the way I drive!!!! Was thinking of taking it to my usual mechanic for him to have a proper look at it (he's already said the clutch isnt the problem) but am worried incase that voids my warranty. FED UP!
