Hi,

I've just booked my 55 plate GTi in for a 65K service (long life) at a main dealer and have been quoted £400.I'd like to have the little stamp in the book - which in my opinion, gives the car a slightly better re-sale edge. The service department said it needed spark plugs and possibly a A/C re-fill. (something like that)

Does the price seem reasonable? If any of you have hit this service mark, what were you charged?

Thats probably about right for the 60k/4yr service mark TBH.
Not 100% sure as havent had my first service yet!!

Have you had your cambelt changed yet? If not I'd deffo recommend you get it done also!!

Sounds about right but price check with the nearest Skoda dealer as well - VW should price match them. This is a big service and plugs should be changed. Aircon should not need regassing unless it isn't blowing cold. Dealers are expensive for this and you can get it done cheaper at a specialist. LL oil is very expensive from a dealer. Check your local Costco - they were doing Castrol Edge 5w-30 LL oil for about £11 for 3 litre packs (you need 4.5 ltrs for GTI). Halfrauds were charging £15 a litre when I checked the other day :shocked:

Agree with ifti - change the cam belt and tensioners. You may also want to change the water pump at the same time because these can fail after a belt change and you have to remove the belt again to do this. Might be more economical in the long run :wink:

Just be carefull they always call and add extras!!

On my second service a few weeks ago they told me my bottom bushs were 'splitting and needed replacement' at a cost of £250.

Got them checked by Midland VW this morning (who are excellent by the way) and funny enough they are fine i had a look myself when my car was on the ramp.

The stealers discription was never more true!!!

Robbing f**kers!!!  :evil: :evil:
