« on: 14 April 2009, 22:08 »
Really proud of my handywork today I just wanted to share it.

Have a tiny bit of rust poking through from spat and decided it would be good to investigate!

Took it off and all looks fine! was so pleased, (Drilled the rivets) the paintwork underneath was immaculate (On the opne I took off) dont want to jynx myself! gave it a good tcut up, then canuba wax (However its spelt) cleaned up the spat the re-rivited it back on! how it should be done :)

Before cleaning! what a mucky mess

Re-rivited back on, followed by a clean, you can see the hose reflecting in the door, thanks meguires! haha

ps sorry to bother everyone! should really add it to my project thread however the caddys taking up most of the time!

Nice one :) Did you not fancy buying some official VW black pop rivets? :p I paid something like 8.50 for all of mine for the Golf.. total ripoff but worth it for the OEM look.

The part number is........ 1 black touch up pen or ask for black ones from whoever you normally get rivets from lol.

Forget the VW rivets... metal to metal not good!  go to your local Ford dealer (sorry) and ask for the black painted pop rivets that hold on the wheel arches/side skirts on a late 80s Fiesta XR2i, rivet is exactly the same as the VW item, only it has a plastic condom (for use of a better term!) that when fitted, totally avoids any metal to metal contact, though looks exactly the same when fitted, a box of 20, is about a fiver

You did that work without a trolley jack / axel stands

I don't trust scissor jacks in the slightest.

Haha yea no axle stands as they are on the Caddy, has got 6 just to keep her firm! Unfortunately came across the old favourite of seized bolts that hold the rear drum to the axle this weekend  oh dear, fun fun fun!

Thanks lads, didnt know that about the rivets, should have thought to be fair but theyve got to come off again soon anyway, but will get on the case straight away, dont want no rust!

Im quite impressed with my small jack, my mates passat didnt like his though, thats now a pancake

Cheers

I found the vw rivets crap to be honest they would not pull tight, I used Ford ones in the end much more secure.
