A cunning plan, but will it work?

Just had a crazy thought in the middle of the night (as you do). My golf has no sterio at the moment and as I have no idea what wire is what behind the dash I thought of a plan. Now I dont listen to the radio and use my MP3 player for all my music, so I was thinking could I take the speaker wires and connect them to a head phone jack so they act like a set of giant head phones? (bit like the Ipod mini speakers). Any reason why this couldnt/shouldnt work?

The only down side I can see is I have no idea what wires actually go to the speakers lol.

No this would not work as the ipod could not supply enough power to drive the speakers, you will need a head unit to use your ipod.

It would supply *some* output, just pretty darn quiet. You'd need a amp to go between the two and you'd be fine. Just look for stereo car amp on eBay and pick something up for a tenner.

it wouldn't be hard to find some sort of power behind the dash for a stereo.

you can get a 3.5mm to line in adapter which allows you to plug an mp3 direct into an amp. all you need to do is sort out the wiring for the switch (blue wire on the amp). my mate has this set up in his beetle

just connect the remote signal to ignition + volts
