I have a similar condition with mine, but i get a metallic version of finger nails down a black board, then it will go away.  It is very intermittent but really unpleasant and quite audible when im out around town.

Anybody any clues.

Cheers

Sounds like this is a common problem on Golfs, cos i have the same 'clicking' noise on mine too, except mine is coming from the passenger side! its very annoying cos i can hear it everytime i pull off, but the noise seem to dissapear when going straight. If this problem is def the wheel bearings, i will get mine changed asap! What puzzles me is if it is the wheel problems, what causes it to make that clicking noise instesd of a whining noise!, also how much is it to get it changed? thnx

Long shot but you have not got a stone stuck in the disc and it is catching the backplate.

The wheel bearing won't be helping however.

No i dont think so, i know what you mean, but wont that will just cause some sort of scraping noise, but mine is def some sort of 'clicking' noise, its not too bad at the moment, im just abit worried if it will be dangerous if its just being left, the last thing i want is if the wheel or something will come off half way down the motorway!
