mk2 installation of electic facet fuel pump
« on: 25 March 2009, 20:09 »
i have an 98 syncro, so the earlier loom and fuse box and it was originally fitted with a mechanical fuel pump. Im fitting twin carbs and have installed a facet fuel pump. I need a relay fitting, so how to i integrate that into the current fusebox, or do I fit a stand-alone one?? Im not very confident with electrics, so a fools guide is fine by me

; )

most people just use an ignition live,   would would be the feed to injectors on a gti iirc

i've used kjet fuel pump circuit before so pump cuts out if engine not runnign but cant rember how it's done right now
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

My pump wasnt priming at one point so I wired the fuel pump relay to switched live and then to a small switch on the dash.  If it got nabbed they wouldnt know how to start it

From a safety aspect you want it to cut the feed to the pump if you are in an accident.  Basically if you hardwire it straight into the auxlilary circuit or similar and you're involved in a crash the fuel pump could still be pumping fuel just when you don't want whilst lying trapped upside down with an engine fire.

I'm sure you can buy switches that cut the current if an impact occurs.  I'm no good with electrics either.

Might be worth picking up and using a Ford relay as they have a safety switch which if they are knocked they cut the fuel pump, Escort or Fiesta would be the best bet.

As does a 91 Rover 214, located behind the centre console for some reason

Good point mine was there as well, seemed a silly place to fit it.
