VDO Pressure Gauge

I am in the process of fitting a set of VDO gauges and want to know if I need to use an audi twin take off pressure sender or not on my 16v 9A engine which has three available take off points in the oil filter/cooler casting.

Can I use the third (spare) take off position using an additional sender for my 0 to 5bar gauge? If yes then can anyone advise the which sender to use, can I just use an additional sender or does it need to be anything different/specific?

the extra hole allows you to have both the mfa and vdo temp sensors fitted and working, you still need to replace one of the existing oil pressure switches with the dual pole vdo one.  if you have a sigle pole one it needs to be fitted to the extra hole, then if you want vdo temp as well you either need to loose the mfa temp sensor or fit a t piece.

To be absolutely sure that I understand the options I have.

I can either fit a vdo twin pole sender and wire this to the mfa and vdo pressure gauge, or can I leave the existing sender in place that feeds the mfa and add an additional sender to feed the vdo gauge?

no.
you fit a twin pole pressure sender, wire this to the vdo pressure gauge, and it replaces one of the pressure warning switches.  single pole one does not replace any of the existing sensors so you need an extra oil hole.
With a dual pole sensor you replace an existing warning switch, thereby leaving you with a spare hole. this you fill with the vdo temperature sensor.

RJ, he was asking if he could either just fit the twin pole pressure sender and run mfa clocks+vdo off it or keep the existing mfa clocks pressure sender and add in (by whatever means, T piece, spare hole) the vdo sender.

Of course you can do the above, it just doesn't make much sense given than the twin pole sender is designed to replace the mfa clocks pressure sender.

The MFA doesn't have a pressure sender, the pressure warning switches are for the oil pressure warning circuit as fitted to all dash clocks (even those without an mfa) the mfa has an oil temp though.  Need to be clear on these things or bad stuff could happen.

you may have done, but the op may have not ;)
this is what i was trying to clear up here, the 2 pole vdo pressure switch is for the gauge and oil pressure warning circuit, the mfa sensor is on its own and you cant run 2 wires to it so you either need to bin it, or run the vdo temp sensor along side. this is generally why having a spare senor hole is good. however if you have a single pole pressure sensor the extra hole can be used for that. but this means you have nowhere for the vdo temp sensor, so either the mfa sensor must be binned or a t piece used.
