F**kin Poxy Heatsheilds.

My MK2 GTI 8v sounds like a Rattley Coke Can cause of that stupid heatsheild.  Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me?.  And should i rip it of or get it welded back on.  Really appreiciate a bit of advice from someone Please.

it's probably just rusted a bit where the screws hold it to the car. try a washer over the screws to hold it still.

If you can get at it you could put a big jubilee clip round the down pipes and heat shield.  VW did this for one of my 16 valvers and it worked a treat.   Had to tighten it occasionally but I could reach it from the engine bay. Stoped that, Saxo cherry bomb like, rattle under revs and turned it back into a roaring Lion ready to take on anything.

I ripped the heat shields off both of my gti's.As it was easier than trying to bodge them up.

it doesnt, only thing it *might* melt is the rubber boot that hides the steering column - bit of tinfoil wrapped sorts that
