Power Hoods?
« on: 09 July 2003, 11:17 »
Hi All,

I've been looking into powering the hood of my MK1 cab, for a laugh :D

I managed to find this:

http://www.autotop.uk.mcmail.com/yourpag6.htm

but the guy wants ?550 for the kit!!  :o

Does anyone know of any other suppliers of these kits, or what would be required to make one yourself?

Thanks in advance,

Mark.

I wouldn't bother M8. It's a big outlay, it will make the car heavier and it will be something else to go wrong. Keep it simple the way it's meant to be.

I know what you're saying, but as the Golf's a second fun car I just thought it would be cool to have!

Just can't believe that that guy wanted ?550 for the kit, surely it must cost peanuts to make the thing?

Has anyone on here ever done this conversion?

My sportline has a power hood as standard, and it it pretty cool for the pose value when it goes down. But you are ight in saying there is not much to it. A small hydraulics motor, some wiring and something to drive the mechanism from the motor, There must be something out there cheaper, I reckon you should keep looking and power it up - weight doesn't come into it- cabs are for posing not racing 8)
I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture

LOL - I agree  8)

What about if I could find a scrap Sportline, could I nick the bits required off it, or is it a completely different hood?  Or maybe order the parts from someone like German & Swedish?

It wasn't just the sportlines with power hoods, I think they made a few models, so it may be worth looking for a scrapyard that specialises in volkswagens. There are a few out there, I had to source a spotlight for mine so I know that there are a few online that may help. Start with these guys- http://www.aceautospares.co.uk/
best of luck
