Rip off bodyshops

I don't know if anyone else has had this sort of experiance but, went to get a couple of estimates to repair some rust along the tops of my doors (nothing serious just want to keep it under control). One shop seems honest quoted £80 for both doors pretty good I thought (will be booking it in for next week) second shop i was recomended wanted £200 + VAT + the cost of new window rubbers as "they will be damaged when I remove them" what a load of ballcocks I thought and left.  Removed them myself to have a look when I got home not a problem.  :angry:

£100 per panel for spraying - sounds like they quoted you the going rate, hardly a rip off.

Replacing the rubbers depends on the nick of the seals.

To be honest bodywork costs have rocketed in the last year or so and £100 per panel is around the going rate.

I need some advice then, I haven't had to use a bodyshop for years.  So if £200 is about right £80 is dam cheap (he wasn't spraying the entire panel just the top half) what would you recomend I do.  Does anyone know of a good shop in the Hull area??

I would have the whole panel done and £200 is not a bad price.

depends on their quality too.

a crap job (usualy cheap ones) can be seen a mile off.

The thing i would worry about is the colour match. old paint vs new painted pannel = eye sore

Pay peanuts you get monkeys working on your car! but most likely some Gippo!
The £200+vat that you were quoted was more than fair, closer to £350+vat would be more realistic for only a half decent job, quoting for new mouldings, they were just covering themselves, in case of damage while removing, this can, and does happen...
The up side to all this is that you can obviously still find paint and body guys deep inside Christmas crackers... :lipsrsealed:

Thanks for all your advice going to get a couple more quotes today, did think £80 was a bit cheap think I will stay clear.

water based paints now have made prices alot higher.

if it was me i wouldnt be going for the cheapest, id be asking around within local car circles to find out who does good jobs and who's just in it for the money.
