just bought a '99 1.8T
« on: 24 February 2009, 16:01 »
hi all, just introducing myself. bought it on saturday... it's black, with 93k. it seems to have the following mods (so far, lol):

interior - black leather / winter pack
performance - remap / superchip / viper induction / evo piston dump valve
wheels - 18" RS6 Alloys | 18x8 5/100-33
suspension - FK Automotive Highsport Coilovers

my impressions so far are that it's a very very harsh ride. dunno how much it's lowered.. except that it's LOW. might have to raise this. there's also lots of creaks and squeaks. the doors have sagged. the climate control is very noisy.

BUT the engine pulls hard and smooth - loads of fun

i'm a biker really (ninja zx10r) but use a car also and i wanted something fun and nippy

so, i've had the car 2 weeks... decided to get it inspected and serviced @ C&R, Nottingham (Golf Specialists)

ouch.

  • ingnition amplifier inadequetly secured for bracket to act as a heat sink
  • missing battery fuse box bracket
  • air mass meter fault (caused by dump valve and induction kit relocation)
  • failed front ARB links on lower bushes
  • ARB failed on inner bushes
  • bodged sump thread
  • rear axle bushes worn out
  • offside rear caliper leaking
  • offside drive shaft is hitting ARB
  • throttle body clean needed
  • coilovers seized

basically, over £1000 worth is needed straight away
