Stripe
« on: 06 March 2009, 15:44 »
Remember the secondary stripe that late MK1s and early Mk2s had running along under the main side stripe?

Was toying with the idea in photoshop of putting one on the MK3, it's getting lowered and the early MK3 Le Mans wheels are being refurbed as we speak.

What do you think of a thin stripe down the bottom under the side rubbing strip?

I don't think it looks too bad at all really, I think it makes the car look lower/longer, you know how fat people shouldn't wear stripes that go sideways?!

I know what you mean about being too 80s, but I was born in 1970 and loved those early Mk2 Red Gtis when they came out, the ones that still had Pirelli wheels. I think with the Le Mans wheels and the stripe I'm trying to re-create that with a modern twist. I like what others do to their Mk3s but something new needs to come along. I've not seen it on a MK3 so I think I@m going to go for it, it'll peel off if it don't look right in the flesh/metal

Just had a look at your project thread, I see what you mean! That's way too low for me though, I just want to tighten it up a bit and make it look more taught. Next I want some of the black hella twin headlights/black grille but keeping silver badge so don't go down that route!

The Le Mans are hard work to refurb, I've got all four cleaned up and three sanded down ready for the primer, just need some more good weather. What tyres do you run on them? Mine came with two Goodyears and two Yokoamas which were scrap. Will be looking for something with a straight sidewall.
