Hiya All,

Driving into work.
I noticed the speedo Display died.  Only left with a Thin horozontal Line, which eventually died completely.  Played with the Display Dimmer didn't help.  Great

At Work
Checked Owners Manual - No fuse for the Display - for Joe Public to touch at lease.
Called Dealer - they want to replace like everything.... Yeah right.

I tried restating car again, several time - Display works fine now!

Have you guys had this electrical glitch before?  Heard of it?  Is this a one off?  Or a warning of imminent failiure to come?

Is there a list of easy things to check 1st?

Hope you can advise!
Cheers
Martin

Hiya Duffy,

Thats freaky!  Same kind of time as me.

Sounds like its happened to you twice, in quick succesion.  How long ago was that?  Did you find out anything about what the cause could be?

Cheers
Martin

BTW:
Do you keep your car outside all the time as well?
Kinda expect VW to have good water insulation really!

the instrument cluster could be duff? Ive just retrofitted the highline in my GTTDI and the fuel gauge had blown a line on the board, so I had to take the control module out and solder the damaged copper wire.  The cluster now works fine but the controller is now showing defective. Yours could be on the same sort of thing I would get it down to the dealer and get them to replace it.

I've heard of people complain of this before, and I'm afraid the solution is a new instrument cluster. Not good news for your pocket I'm afraid, if  the car's out of warranty

Though perhaps VW would do something for you.
