Im clueless, this has got me stumped, mate of mine had a chain on his nissan so is this vw's alternative?

No mate some nissans have timing chains instead of timing belts, Golfs have a timing belt but also a cam chain that runs the 2 cams together.  :smiley: :smiley:

bit of a highjack, but what is needed for changing the belt i.e tensioners, belt. Or what is advised to be replaced when the job is getting done

you get a kit which comprises of a belt, tensioner, roller etc possibly one or two other bits

also replace your water pump whilst the belt is off as they tend to tail and its only the price of the pump extra on top of having the cambelt replaced

yup i work at nissan and they do use alot of timing chains. Mainly in the micra
Gone but still keeping a close eye on it...
