Gearbox problem... strip or repair?!
« on: 02 March 2009, 09:58 »
Hi guys n girls,

I have a problem with my gearbox on my 16V. I was driving the other day and as i pulled up to the traffic light and depressed my clutch it just stuck to the floor. At first i thought it may be the cable but it was fine and noticed that the release arm did not have much tension on it. When poppin the green cap off the end of the gearbox i checked the release arm, which seemed fine, but the piston/rod it presses on seems like it is jammed hence the play on the release arm.

Does anyone know what the cause can be and can i rectify it by dismantlin just the end of the gearbox?
Or do i have to take the gearbox out in which case i shall just rebuild it? :undecided:

Your knowledge and wisdom will be much appreciated.

if the release arm and finger are ok, then you probably have a hole in your release plate, which is a gearbox off job :(

Thanks for the link mate... gonna take off the release arm and check the TO bearing first... if its not that then it looks like time for a rebuild i guess.
