Rear bumper (big) fitment.
« on: 02 March 2009, 10:45 »
Some idiot drove into my rear bumper last night  and now its misaligned.

I can see that the plastic bracket on the bumper (the one that slides onto the retaining bracket on the body) is broken.  Can this be replaced or is it a whole new bumper needed.

I'll add some pics when I get chance, just wondered if anyone here knows what the hell I'm talkin about.

Ideally, you need a replacement bumper. However, I have had some success with repairing these, although they are plastic welded in place. But you need another one from another bumper. Either way, the bumper needs to be removed and another bracket located as these are not sold seperately. They can be araldited in place, although I used pop rivets. (I repaired a front bumper on a previous Golf.)

I'm not so sure about the rear, I think it'll be a new bumper as the brackets are fixed iirc. However the brackets are separate on the front and can therefore be removed, take it off and have a look. Will only take ya 20-30 mins.

Cheers guys.  Looks like I'll have to source a bumper regardless if the bracket isn't available.  I'll have to keep my eyes peeled.

There's tons of bumpers for sale on ebay and on here. For the price you pay it's not worth your time fixing it.
