Beefy Brakes Help Please
« on: 22 March 2009, 15:00 »
I just need to clarify something, is mk2 16v brake master cylinder 22mm and the mk3 16v master cylinder 24mm?

Can you use the mk3 master cylinder with a 256mm brake setup?

See I'm converting to ABF and was toying with the idea of changing to 5x100 but didn't want the faf of swapping wishbones or going wide track.
I also like the alloys I've got in 4x100, so I was thinking, braided hoses all round, keep grooved 256 discs, decent pads, 5.1 fluid and use the 24mm master cylinder from my mk3 donor car?
Does anyone see a flaw in the plan please let me know as would rather know now than sitting in the garage with 2 broken golfs...

Cheers in advance

if your upgrading the brakes i would go 280mm if your alloys fit, grooved discs would probably improve braking slightly but for the money your spending on these + new pads you may aswell go BIGGER!

i've got a cordoba master cyl  to go on,  23.6mm  as opposed to 22mm ,  but it uses the larger fittings  so needto adapt the brake lines  when i fit it.

useing cordoba one as it's ali and half the weight :)
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

just bought a 24mm MC (2line) should be bit better should I choose to run bigger brakes.
Think I'll punt my mk3 brake setup and see if I can track down a 280mm setup of some description.
Have to stop looking on ebay in the wee small hours...
