Good engine mounts??
« on: 01 March 2009, 20:29 »
Just wondering if there are any "superior" engine mounts (as I broke my front one :( lol)?? It's a PB engine, 8v GTi, as far as I know I can get the mounts off of any 8v mk2 from 1.0-1.8,  is this correct?? And are there any good aftermarket ones, like ones that'll hold up longer?? Sayin that, these ones did last 18 years...

'G60' mount on the back and '1.3' mounts on the front and gearbox.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

the 1.3 ones are bonded rubber.    much stiffer than the hydralic mounts,  also the late 16v  gearbox mount is also know as a 1300 gearbox mount,  same item same pn

imo the hydralic mounts were proably to reduce noise or somethign comfort related,  i have the g60 and 1300 combo and it works really well.  engine if held nice and firm comapred to before but it can still move if need to  without buggering the frount mount bracket
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

aye hydro was brough out to reduce vibration, carby models with a hydro mount even have a lower idle setting than the early solid type :)

OK so I'm picking up an 8v 1.8 mount later today, would it be worth changing for a 1.3 when I can get hold of one?? I'm just after a quick fix for now as I'm supposed to be hitting up JKM this week with other forum members
