Car broke down this morning...
« on: 24 February 2009, 09:37 »
Morning guys,

Wondering if anyone can help me on this one.
My Car is an 8V digi. This morning whilst driving, the engine just cut out on me. As it was coasting to a stop, I tried to bump start it but no joy.
I pulled over and tried starting it again but still no joy. The electrics were all fine, plenty of power in the battery and the starter motor was turning over, but the enginer never fired.
I checked under the bonnet and couldn't see any obvious issues.
Tried starting again and still nothing.
After scratching my head for about 10 minutes, I tried starting  it again and it was fine?

It seemed a bit like the engine had flooded maybe or possibly some other fuelling issue. At the time I had about 1/2 a tank of petrol so it wasn't  low?

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

check out the wiring to the side of the head, and clean up all the battery cabling. if it happens again listen for the fuel pump,  see if it primes on 1st turn of key, if it does that shows the ECU at least is powering up.
Also at the time it cuts out, listen for the pump. It should run on for a couple of seconds if engine stalls/cuts.  If not this shows that you have a fuel delivery problem, either fuel relay, pump or wiring is cutting out

Main thing would be to check if the fuel pump is running.

Cheers guys.

I think the Golf actually sprung in to life when my sister pulled up in her Impreza and I threatened to go to work in that!
