GTI 16v or rally G60 4x4
« on: 04 July 2004, 15:16 »
Hey guys..  :)
I have a grate dilemma  ??? . I own a mk2 GTI 16v  (year model 1990) for two years now. I put on it a lot (a lot!!) of money in that time: Re built the engine, few good mods and so on? and it runs grait!!
I love it. Really Really love it.  :-*
Today, a friend of mine who owns a MK2 rally (G60 ? 4x4) year model 1989 (it is the only one in Israel), (Ohhh.. I live in Israel by the way? ;)) called me and offer me to switch cars with him, but he wants me to give him a bit more money on his car. His car is moded to 200hp I reckon. In Israel my GTI worth about 8500 euro and he wants 10,000 for the rally.
Well my friends, what do you reckon?
Should I make the swap?
In into handling more then any thing so do the rally has the same handling qualities?
What about it?s reliability?
What would you do?  ???

handling would prob be better dye to 4x4 chassis. performance would be better but superchargers can be expensive and less reliable if not looked after properly.

i would ask myself why does he want to swap? whats wrong with his car?

I would be very tempted by the deal but then I have a Rallye  ;D

Need to know why he wants to do the swap.

Once you see how much you can chuck it around and how it's glued to the floor there may be no going back :)

Have you got any charger specialists over there? You need to get the supercharger rebuilt every 30-50k miles if you have gone for a smaller pulley - which to achieve 200 odd bhp he will have done.

the Rallye will be a lot more costly to run & maintain

ideally you wouldnt want to be using the rallye as a daily driver
