disconnect the plug from the main pump under the car, turn the key 1 click. do you hear the lifter pump prime?
ideally you should keep the isv, you wont gain anything by blanking it off. Go back and check all your timing marks, if they're all at tdc then it should be close enough to run, does the car run if you hold the revs up or does it still cut out?
Check all your vacuum hoses are hooked up, and make sure your breather pips are all ok and not split, same with the big rubber boot to the inlet. are you sure the inlet manifold bolts are all tight as well

Did you change anything while the engine was in pices like the AFM or ISV? leads?
