R Tech remap, My experiance.....
« on: 12 February 2009, 18:12 »
I had been thinking about getting my golf remapped for ages, but always at the back of my mind wasn’t sure if it was the best thing to do. I was concerned about the extra strain on the engine etc.

Anyway after reading so much good feedback of RTech, and also seeing there prices I was finding it hard to resist. I spoke with Nick a few times over email, and he was helpful but wasn’t overly keen to come all the way to Cornwall, Which for the price they charge you can't really blame him. In the end I got a mate interested and Nick agreed to meet us in Exeter services.

So the day came, drove up and met the guys and they got to work. Firstly they checked my car with VagCom, they sent the new map file. Me and Nick then went for a drive and he said he wanted to clean the throttle body. So he took it off cleaned it out and refitted. Then I went for another drive, this time with Ben in the car monitoring everything with his Laptop.

They mapped my mates car, and he went for a drive, he was happy with it, said it felt loads better. But Nick said he wanted to try a different map instead, so a different map was uploaded and another test drive. They also cleaned his throttle body out aswell. I think Ben wanted to clean my mates car as it was hanging, and also had a broken headlight and rear light.....

Anyway paid the money and drove off. Went into Exeter shopping. 3 hours later jumped in the car and made my way out of Exeter onto the dual carridgeway, put my foot down, and the car coughed, spluttered and the engine management light came on.  TBH I was quite worried. I rang Nick and explained the symptoms, straight away he said is it stinking? I said now you mention it yes it is. Nicks reply was 110% a coil pack, where are you now? So I explained I was still in Exeter. Nick said I'll ring you back in a few minutes. Sure enough a few minutes later he rang back and explained he had found a eurocarparts near me (2ish miles) that had them in stock, not only that but he had reserved one for me, and I got it for trade price.
Fitted it to number 1, no different, then number 2, no different, then number 3, no different, (Now Im getting concerned) Fitted it to Number 4 and $hit hot running right. Needless to say there was a spirited drive back to Cornwall by 2 golfs.

All in all these boys know there stuff. We had a good bit of banter, and they helped me out afterwards. The remaps awesome, pulls like a train (intimated a Megane 225 on the way back)

I wouldn’t hesitate using them again.

Bingo!  That is what I like to hear!!

Them bloody coils pack are crap, fine with the bland 150bhp but as soon as you start to raise the performance the die very quick, Once new packs are fitted you should have no problems for a few years.

Anyway I am glad you are happy with the remap, service &  aftersales support.  Any problems or question you know you can call us when you want.

Thanks for you custom and comments.

Nick

Just an update, since above. I recently had a little play with a Clio 172 and kept up with him ok!  I used to have a Clio 182 which felt faster but I think its the power delievery being different, also followed a Sapphire cosworth today and he wasnt pulling away, although it did look standard (ie standard exhaust), so prob 220ish
