AEB into mk2. Quite frustrated any ideas on these?
« on: 12 February 2009, 23:26 »
Hi guys,

Got to the point with the conversion where I'm ready to make the engine into a coffee table! Just after some advice from the Guru's!

I have an AEB engine from an Audi A4 with an AGU inlet manifold, exhaust manifold and turbo.
The coolant pipework from the AGU which I bought doesn't fit the AEB lump and neither does the AEB original pipework now there is an AGU manifold on.
The alternator fouls the AEB throttle body on the AGU manifold.
The oil cooler from the AEB stops the front engine mount bolting up to the engine. The AGU one I bought doesn't fit onto the AEB lump.
I have a VR6 water pump pulley which has solved the belt routing issue but the secondary fan and power steering pump bracket get in the way of the belt route.

Sorry to whine, But I took a day off today to try and get the engine somewhere near so I can drop it in next week. All I have done is get more hacked off with it and mounted the turbo and manifold up.
Please help!!!

Hi not sure if i can help here as i havnt actually done this myself but i did read a fair amount about the swap over on vortex when i was planning to use an AEB (bought an AUM in the end).

For the alternator setup people normally use a setup either from a mk2 16v if you want to stick with v-belts or you can use mk3 alternator setups either from the 8v engine or the ABF 16v however either way you will need to use the ABF crank pulley (this is due to the ABF having a wider timing belt).  Best setup to use would be the full set from an ABF as it will work exactly as it did in the mk3.

The oil cooler problem can be solved by using an oil filter housing from a mk3 or passat diesel or from the 2 litre blocks.  The diesel is the better option as it has the outlet already tapped on the front for the oil pipework to the turbo.

Water pipework im unsure which parts you are having dificulty fitting but there will definately be a workaround somewhere.

If you have a search on the vwvortex forums there is a wealth of information on this swap although it often involves wading through a lot of other bad information.  here are a few links i had stored which may prove useful

Hopefully at least some of that will be useful. Good luck with the swap.
