CV Joint instructions?

Can anyone help with instructions on replacing a N/S inner CV Joint on Mk2 16v

Any tips / observations etc

Also what else should be done at the same time?

only tip i would give you is make sure you use the proper 12-pin drive to get the bolts off otherwise you'll end up rounding them

taking the bottom ball joint out will give you enough leverage on the struct to remove the shaft from the gearbox so you can change the joint over

are you sure your inner cv joints defo need replaced?? inner cv's rarely need replaced unless you've done mega miles

if you want a cv boot i have a brand new boxed one for a MK2 gti 1988 brought it last yea but got the garage to change it!

Easiest way is to remove the shaft complete, get it in a vice and bang the joint off with a rubber mallet.

Remove the shaft as '6 said, the inner cv is held on with a snap ring which has to be expanded out of a grove over the end of the splined shaft. When this is of, tap the joint of.

Thanks for the tips, I have the parts ordered now! Replacing both inner and outer CV joints plus boots etc.

Are the Haynes instructions up to the job? I will be following it step by step unless someone else has a better step by step guide!
