R32uk's car is the only R that returns more then the VW handbook specifys. From a cold start , and 8 mile journey, theres NO WAY your car will accurately return that figure, especially from cold as it runs a third richer and would use more then on a long run giving then a good mpg reading on the mfd.
From Brim to Brim  that  is the only way to correctly work out whether your R32 is giving you that figure. At 36mpg, thats 432 mile range!. IMPOSSIBLE!!

A 2.0lt TFSi cannot return that figure even driven with kid gloves, and your saying a V6 is more efficient!!

I dont think you will ever get me trying to do that over a full tank, and tbh Im not going to start working out calculations.... but thats what it said on the comp reading. Car is garaged over night (12.5oC approx), so not exactly cold start, but it was 0.5 outside.

Usually get about 28-30mpg on the way to work if im not late. But with it being early Satuday morning there was literally no traffic and only stopped at one set of lights.  Just telling it how its mate!

If you want to know how I got higher than the VW handbook i probably wouldnt be able to tell you... but why not go ask T_T how he consistently gets 36mpg from his RS4?? :smug:

p.s. And dont be a wuss if you think im lying then just come out and say it, rather than pussyfooting about with terms such as "impossible" and "no way".

Wasnt directing this at you mate, ive seen so many of these threads over various forums, all of them performance car forums. Seems like a silly question to ask on a car you buy to enjoy!

Ive posted this link a couple of times now

I think your forgetting that a car is actually a must for most people rather than a want. If I just wanted my car to blast for the weekend then I certainly wouldnt have an R32 but would go for something more performance based. Like if I wanted a car just for work purposes I wouldnt have an R32 either and would probably just get something to get me about.

We cant all afford different cars for different things, so get something that fits the bill for both purposes. I do generally drive my car the way that it should be... but on the few occasions I choose not to atleast I know I can get good mpg

I completely agree. I cant afford to run two or three cars at the same time. Nor would I want to. I just want one!

I, like yourself, need a car to get me to work and back, as well as for the weekends. Thats exactly why Im considering the ED30 now. Practical enough for getting me to work and back, a good family car (looking for a 4 door model) for my two young daughters, and more then enough power to have a blast on weekends, or on the way home from work!

Im looking for a DSG, which will probably run in 'D' automatic most of the time getting me to work and back, so hopefully I'll get some good MPG - especially since most of my drive to work is down a motorway and dual carriageway, with only a little traffic at one point. I can then empty my tank on the weekends by sticking it in sport! lol

I cover around 280-300 miles a week. The way I see it, if I can get away with filling the tank up once a week, then Im happy. It will get me to work and back during the week, and then hopefully have some left for fun at weekends!

I currently only have a Fiesta Zetec S, which is a 1.6, but pretty good on fuel consumption - giving me just over 40mpg with 'normal' driving. I get around 300 miles from a tank, and its costing me around £25-30 a week to fill up, depending on fuel prices obviously. Am I correct to assume I'd be specing around £50-55 a week to fill up the tank in an ED30? I dont mind the extra jump up in cost when I consider the extra fun I'll have ;)

I only try to save petrol when it's a trip to one of the wifes relatives.
She forced me to go to Warrington on Friday, 140 miles round trip.

The DSG GTI achieved 40.0 mpg overall.

If you were the chap in the black GTI that overtook at speed sorry about the miserable grimace on my mush, a constant 60 mph does no favours for the enjoyment of life.

In the real world (relatives aside) I average about 27 mpg.
Currently digging a bunker.

sounds similar to my current Audi TT, which is good.

motorway i've seen upto 40mpg average over 100miles+ journey (on the TT), so good reassuring read
