head gasket and timing belt with tensioners also thermastat!!!

hi guys just wanted to know if after i get this all done on my mk3 golf 2ltr gti will this be free of all high emmisions the reason s for failing mot 3 times thx guys i will be awaiting reply !!!!!!!!! much appriciated!!!!

get it on vag.com before you spend that much because that lot wont be cheap.

thermastat maybe but not cam belt, is the headgasket gone or is that what they said?

I will try and make this as painless as possible....but first get a compression test done and post the results on here (that will tell if its a headgasket issue!). If the gaskey has gone you'll need the head skimming otherwise the issue will return and use a quality headgasket (payen gaskets are my fave)
The mot place should know if the lamda sensor is at fault as they would connect a sensor to it for the test (mine do anyhow), thermostat is very unlikely to cause high emmisons as it only stops/slows water flow through the engine when cold. timing can cause issues with emmsions and its possible the belts being fitted incorrectly but this would normally give other issues!

try the compression test first and take it from there

yes but if the thermostat is jammed open like mine the engine will rarely get to full operating temp and means it thinks its cold and will pump more fuel into the engine, as it would when the engine is cold.

The sensor that is fitted to an emmisions tester is a rev meter, this would not bring up a fault with a lambda.

That is what i was getting at, my fault should have been clearer in my first post!

thx ever so much guys for ur info i did ask all this when i picked up the car i asked is the the gasket def the prob and they said yes they done check on lambda and temp and ecu and they where all fine i have already bought the gasket kit and also the timing belt kit and tensioners and a new thermastat as advised by my local garage he is also gonna do the skimming and the optional  of having all the rocker check for cracks e,t,c also paying for clips and other small little things he said they needed. i would assume they would do a complete oil change as would think they need to empty it all.shame really as this car has had a full history of service done !!! but after all this being done. should i have a brand new car or what!!!! and will it go through mot on emisions wich is my biggest worry that it don,t after all this work and cost chrs ever so much !!! guys ! u have been very helpfull!!! very very much appriciated!!!!! will check bak !! soon this eve!!!!!!!! thx again.
