how to get the clocks out of the dash

i have a mk4 golf 03 reg .. how do i get the clock out.. i am going to put the crome rings in.. help
life is simple when you drive a golf.......bmw... merc...

Disconnect the battery first!

adjust your steering wheel as far down and towards you as possible

underneath the clocks is a piece of trim with some material attached - pull this towards you there are two clips holding it in

then use a Torx10 bit to remove the two screws

Pull the clocks toward you and tilt to one side as there are two connectors on the back - unclip the connector and then turn the clocks to the other side and unclip the second connector

job done


once done you should end up with something like this depending on what style of chrome rings you've bought

We didn't have to disconnect the battery :)

you don't but its always best practice to disconnect the battery whilst working on the electrical systems  :smiley:

Just to further it...is it easy enough to remove the plastic screen??

yes think there are two long screws and some clips holding the clocks together - they essentially come apart in 2

once you get them out you'll see the clips i mean - the screws are located on the back - need a very small phillips screwdriver to remove them

Hmm thanks...have had some chrome rings given to me about 2 years ago! Never bothered with em though...may try it!

Last question...whats best the use to fit them....simple ol superglue??

job done . they came with all the stuff to fit .. 2 rings ,, small square part and a wee part like a car ... will post pics when some more things done ..
