New hood on the way

Swallowed some brave pills and ordered one of the ?75 hoods off e-bay. Fingers crossed its okay but if not its not the end of the world. Cant find any reputable suppliers in Scotland and the seller has 100% feedback so thought it was worth a gamble. If all goes well I'm looking forward to ditching the all white look with a black hood. Also ordered a new headliner as well. Hopefully I can fit these myself - I will let you know the results.

good luck fitting the hood kenny - sounds risky and i know of a few people that have wanted to try the 75 quidders but are just not brave enuff!!

Hood hasnt been delivered yet and truth be told I am a bit nervous about fitting it. Have a quote from a firm nearby for ?200 to do the work but grudge paying that if I can do it myself. Have been reading up on doing it yourself and it sounds tricky but not impossible. Whatever happens I'll let everyone know.

Story so far....
The ?75 hood is fine and I can see no reason why it is classed as factory seconds. I have stripped out and replaced the headlining (which I bought separately and cost twice the price of the hood) and stripped off the old hood. It was hiding a multitude of sins - rust etc so I have taken my time sorting that out. I am halfway through fitting the hood under the lip at the back of the car but it is quite tricky and is a two man job. Aside from that so far its really just been a case of patience and confidence. I had thought my old hood and headlining wasnt too bad but when I took it out it was really skanky and mouldy. I may yet be proved wrong but I would say that so far I am glad I didnt spend hundreds of pounds getting somebody to do it. Further update soon.

I fitted a second hand hood to my car last weekend. It is a bit tricky but a lot easier than i thought it would be. Its suprising the difference it has made.

Sorry about the delay in updating - computer has been on the blink. Like VWnut says fitting a hood is much easier than anything I have read would suggest. I did the headlining as well which made it slightly trickier but the end result looks great. The only slight niggle being that it is quite tight and stiff to close the handles inside - although this seems to be easing off as the hood stretches. You do need a bit of patience and a few tools you might not necessarily have lying about (I borrowed a pop riveter and pneumatic staple gun). I would say that the money saved made it well worthwhile. I reckon that you could fit the new hood in a couple of hours with the right equipment to hand. Also the e-bay hood was well worth the ?75 risk - as far as I can see there is nothing wrong with it at all.
